Why Working From Home May Spark A Move

November 18, 2020 by Megan Gullotta

With a new lockdown heading into place here in Orange County, now is a great time to discuss why working from home may spark a move. While many people have been furloughed & laid off, many of us are fortunate enough to work from home. I’m sure you’ve been at it maybe a little longer than expected, but thankfully many businesses have figured out a way to keep people safe & healthy by working remotely.

As these lockdowns continue & the Pandemic carries on, we’re all finding ourselves in our houses A LOT more often than before; Which leads us to nit-pick all the little things we want to change! For example, wishing we had a different floor plan, needing extra space for an office and even discovering that we may not like our neighbors as much as we thought we did. Now these things didn’t matter to us quite as much before, but now that we’re in our house 90% of the time, they do! Whether you’re renting or you own, if working remotely is looking like it will be part of your future, now may just be the perfect time. The low interest rate environment won’t last forever, and locking in that low rate now could save you hundreds of dollars in the long run!

According to Upwork, millions of people are planning to move due to remote work. Although, not everyone will be moving within the same city, or even the same county. In fact, 54.7% of people in the US plan to move 2 or more hours away from their current location. A very similar 52.5% of people will be moving into a more affordable house. Having the capability of working from home has given many the opportunity to move to a more affordable city where they can get a bigger house for cheap. I have had quite a few clients this year move from Orange County out to Riverside County simply for the fact that they can get a larger home at a more affordable price.

Now don’t be fooled, buying a new home isn’t as simple as finding the perfect house and moving. This market is COMPETITIVE. There are A LOT of buyers out there. You must be prepared to offer with your best foot forward & get creative with making your offer stand out.
